Running alongside the competition yard and the rehabilitation yard, is a separate yard unit specifically for mares and foals. This facilitates Sharon’s own equine breeding programme.

Sharon explains: “Starting my own equine breeding programme is a logical progression. Effectively, it is just distilling and applying the knowledge and experience I have built up over many years from producing, training and competing event horses and I look forward to nurturing the next generation of competitive horses. I have wonderful brood mares at Darshams Farm, on whom I have successfully competed in the past – so I know they are extremely talented and have all the very best attributes one looks for in a competitive horse. I have also very carefully researched and selected impressive sires with excellent track records so exciting times ahead!”

For the past few years, the team at Darshams Farm has been delighted to welcome new life to the yard thanks to the three resident broodmares. The first broodmare, Double Whammy (Lux Z x Clover Brigade) gave birth in 2016 to a foal by Mylord Carthago – a world class international jumping stallion. Already, Ronnie moves beautifully and is spirited and inquisitive.

Another new arrival in 2016 was thanks to Red Amber (Skyboy x cruising x Marius), who has had a colt, namely Reggie, by international show jumping stallion Casallco. He is impressive, strong and has plenty of presence – definitely a bit of a character! In 2015,  Red Amber had a colt by the late Landor S – a champion stallion. The resulting yearling, Head Hunted, is absolutely stunning with incredible paces and presence – a truly exciting prospect! In 2014, Red Amber had her first foal – now an impressive and beautiful two-year-old, namely Treasure Hunt – by Cevin Z, a stallion with outstanding bloodlines.

Finally, Just Maisie II had a filly in 2015, also by Landor S. The filly, In The Hunt, is just a lovely sort with a truly wonderful temperament.

All these exciting prospects already move beautifully and we cannot wait to watch them all develop – exciting times ahead at Darshams Farm!
